‘The Value of Hair’ is a tactile publication exploring how women’s hair is culturally valued and controlled. It examines hair as both a tool of disguise and a site
of contradiction, where its meaning shifts depending on where it appears on the body.
The publication combines two articles with responses from a participatory workshop, including writing, statistics, and drawings. Together, these elements highlight shared experiences around beauty
standards, stigma, and bodily autonomy.
Physically, the work is stitch-bound using hair, with hair
embedded in the front and back covers. This material choice reinforces the project’s themes, turning hair into both subject and substance, and prompting a direct,
sensory engagement from the reader.
